Carols at Tesco
19 December 2010

CHURCH CAME TO TESCO in Newtown on Sunday 19 December. Last minute Christmas shoppers were surprised to see a Christmas Carol Service taking place in the foyer of the town’s newest supermarket.

The Revd Andy Grimwood, Vicar, said, “I was amazed at the number of people who joined us: over 60 church members of all ages braved the snow and ice to sing carols and we were joined by members of the public. We had a couple of children sing solos and one played a cornet. Clergy and church members had conversations with shoppers about Christmas and its meaning and nearly 400 Christmas leaflets were distributed.

Tesco made us feel very welcome, keeping us supplied with coffee and mince pies, and they've already booked us again for next year. This event made a really great impact in Newtown, with the Anglican churches spreading Christmas cheer on a cold and frosty morning, and a little of the love and concern Christ has for his people.”
